October STOM: Holiday Magic

These two cards are my October STOM Swaps (S1110 Holiday Magic)

This 4 3/4 x 3 card is using "Center Accent" from Originals. The technique on this card is the use of CTMH's Glitz Glitter Gel in Silver, Bronze, and Red. I love how the Glitz Glitter makes my cards POP!

This 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card is using "Lucky Three" from Originals. Again, I used the Glitz glitter Gel in Silver to add ornaments to my Christmas Tree. I also love how the chunky Sweet Leaf Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon adds dimension to my card.

October 3-Card Workshop

We will create 3 Halloween Themed cards for October's 3-Card Workshop.

This 3 x 6 card is using the Diamond stamped image pattern from All Hallows Eve. This was a "free form" pattern and can be found on page 74 in the Fall / Winter 2011 CTMH Catalog. The card used in the catty is what inspired this card. The All Hallows Eve is a cricut-friendly stamp image. The image is cut at 1 1/4 and the Barn Red matte is cut at 1 1/2. I also used the Glitz Glitter: Silver to add a little sparked in between the Diamonds.

Penny Pluss Hosted our September CTMH Unit Meeting. She found a ghost treat box on the CTMH Bulletin Boards. Everything was cut using the CTMH Exclusive Cricut Art Philosophy. Of course, I had to add my own twist to the project. Instead of the ghost having a round face, I wanted my ghost to look a little more ghostly.... so I used the cupcake Critut image to create my ghost. I cut the cupcake at 5 inches and then cut 1 1/2 inches from the bottom so all that remained was a little bit to use to attach the top hat. Each hat was decorated a little different.

This little 3x3 card is using the "Stage Right" template from Originals. I absolutely LOVE using CTMH's 2" Scallop Circle Punch to create layered flowers. The edges are ink distressed and then crumple each flower before layering.

This 4 3/4 x 3 card is using "Right Spotlight" from Originals. On this card I used the masking technique to stamp the "note paper" image inside of the tag.

MTV Turns 30!!!

MTV first aired, August 1, 1981. The first video was "Video Killed The Radio Star" by the Buggles. I think this is what defined the 80's and has made it the best decade EVER! (in my opinion, of course!) MTV used to air music videos 24/7 and began to evolve in 1985 with game shows, then in 1992 .... reality TV .... Oh the horror!! I hate reality TV!

In 1981 I was 8 years old when MTV was born and it has left a lasting impression on my taste of music and my LOVE of music videos.

The first "original" VJ's: Alan Hunter, Mark Goodman, JJ Jackson, Martha Quinn, Nina Blackwood.

Thank goodness for satellite radio, cause I still listen to the 80's!!

Consume It...Don't Collect In!!

CTMH's new philosophy is "Consume it, Don't Collect It".

They have made a few changes in the 2011 Fall / Winter Catalog. One of these changes is reducing the amount of "Bulk" cardstock that is available. You will notice that not ALL of the colors are available in the 24 pack. This is a one way customers will be introduced to the new "Consume it, Don't Collect It" concept. The My Reflections Level II will no longer contain 4 pages of White Daisy or Colonial White Cardstock. The cost of the My Reflections Level II has been REDUCED from $12.95 to $9.95. It will contain fewer paper, by eliminating the unwanted White Daisy and Colonial White cardstock. Instead it will contain MORE colored cardstock.

The Green Lantern!!

Okay, so I am a super-hero dork! If you know me, then you already know this - and it's not new "news". Well, I am anxiously awaiting The Green Lantern movie staring Ryan Reynolds. He has become one of my favorite actors. I find him to be very witty. I have to say my favorite movie is Blade Trinity. I absolutely love him in that movie! I have already informed my hubby that if he does not take me to the movies, I will go by myself! Come June 17th you will find me at the nearest theater watching The Green Lantern in 3-D.

April Weekend Workshop: 6x6 Mini Showcase Album

The April weekend workshop featured the 6x6 My Creations Memory Showcase accordion-style album. The album features 6 pages with chipboard covers.

The technique used is fun-flock. I learned this technique from Jeannette Lynton's blog the founder and CEO of CTMH). http://www.jeanettelynton.com/ Jeannette's blog is full of fun tips and techniques. Her blog is updated regularly and is on my "favorites" list. So, I visit it frequently.

I used the 2" scallop circle punch to create this layered flower. I ink distressed the edges, crinkled, mashed and wadded up the scallop circles to give them a nice distressed look. I added a white fiber flower from the RETIRED Mini-Medley Accents: White Daisy. I love these flowers and still use them even though they are retired from the catalog.

This is a quick re-cap of the Jeannette's technique of coloring Fun Flock:

Place white Fun Flock in a zip lock bag (I placed it on wax paper)

Place a few drops of re-inker in a Spray Pen and then add water. Shake well.

Mist the Fun Flock. Allow it time to dry (I let it dry overnight).

Stamp your image and cut it out. (I also ink distressed the edges)

Using a Bonding Memories Glue Pen I added the adhesive to the areas I wanted Fun Flock.

February 3-Card Workshop

February 2011 Workshop.....I decided to host a quick workshop for Valentine's Day. This workshop will be held during the week since Valentine's Day will be Monday, February 14th. We will create 3 cards for $5.00 using the Sweetheart My Reflections Level 2 paper pak. I absolutely love these papers. It has a great combination of pinks: Baby Pink, Cotton Candy (NEW COLOR), Tulip, Black and White. Once again, we will emboss using black embossing powder. I love how the black embossed areas accent each card.

So, if you would like to create 3 beautiful cards in time for Valentine's Day....stop by one day this week. (Dates and Times will be posted at the bottom of the page).

Possible SNOW on Friday!!!!

SNOW??? What is that? It's that white fluffy stuff that is so pretty when it first falls and then turns to black mush as it starts to melt. Well, we are anticipating Snow Thursday PM / Friday AM. It is predicted that 1-3 inches of snow will fall. It is time to charge your cameras and make sure your SD cards are empty so you can capture your Snowy Memories. Last year I did a workshop and scrapped my snow pictures. Some people may think that snow is not a big deal, but in South Texas it is!!! Snow in Texas is a great phenomenon!!! Texans can't drive in it. When we see snow our world stops and we look at it falling from the sky, like it is a great big secret. Who knows, maybe it is the good Lord sprinkling Powdered Sugar on us to make us sweeter!!

Workshop Weekend: Pennant Banner

For my January Workshop Weekend we will create a mini-album using the My Creations Banner. The cost of this workshop is $20.00. This is a new and trendy album. It includes 8 chipboard pages and 7 jump rings. The pages are 7 x 6. Since I made my banner into an album I used 1 inch jump rings to hold the album together. I used a variety of 5x6; 4x6 and wallet size photos. Attendee will also learn how to create faux pleated ribbon as well as create a flower out of pleated ribbon. I uses a lot of embellishments and my album ended up a little bulky. I also used a lot of 3D foam tape to add dimension to my photos and embellishments.

I would like to share with you my 2010 Christmas Card. I was not able to create cards last year, since my Uncle was in a car accident in November and was laid to rest on Christmas Eve. Even though I would take my supplies and work on them while I would sit in the waiting room, they were never completed. So this year I wanted to make my cards special. I used the C1427 I Believe stamp set. There are alot of things I believe in: Love, Hope, Karma, and of course.....Santa!!! Without the jolly 'ole man, gifts could not be delivered to children all over the world. (Yes, I still Believe!)

In November I held a Flip Flap Workshop. What are Flip Flaps, you are asking? They are Memory Protectors that you can attach to a 12x12 scrap page. The Flip Flaps have a stong adhesive that will endure the endless opening and closing of the a page. they come in 6x12; 4x12; and 8x12. You can use them in various combinations. We created 6 12x12 pages. When combined using the Flip Flaps, it will end up being 2 pages in your Memory Album.

This is the Right side. As you can see it looks like one page. But when opened it reveals 2 additional pages. One solid 12 x 12 with 6 inches on top and 6 inches on bottom.

For our October Hostess Club we will use the Workshop On The Go: Olivia Kit. I love this paper!! I added my own spin to the recommended layout. I added an interactive page. I needed more space for more pictures. If you will rememer, last month my Weekend Workshop was Interactive Pages: Hocus Pocus. This particular layout uses a "film strip". I modified the "film strip" technique to add a few more pictures to my layout.

This past weekend (10/16/2010 & 10/17/2010) I held my monthly Workshop Weekend. We completed Close To My Hearts newest My Creations addition: Mix & Mingle. This is a fun little 4 x 4 album that includes 3 clear and 5 chipboard pages. My workshop on both days was a HUGE success!! I have the best customers.

Who has favorite TV shows?

I have to admit, I have A LOT of them. I am glad that someone invented DVR. Without it, I would be glued to the TV (literally!)

I was very excited about my two favorite shows coming back (I have many, but these rank #1 and #2). My #1 show is Glee. I laugh at the silliness of the movie and I love the banter between Will Shuester and Sue Sylvester. I tune every week to see the Glee Club break out into song and dance and to hear the cracks Sue makes about Will's hair.

My #2 show is NCIS. I have to admit, I didn't watch this one beginning with the 1st season. I just recently fell in love with Gibbs, Abby, McGee, Ziva, and DeNozo. They make a great team!

I also watch: Supernatural (this is season 6, and it's last); Smallville (this is season 10, and it's last); Two and a Half Men; How I Met Your Mother; Vampire Diaries; NCIS LA; Criminal Minds; CSI NY and a couple more that I am forgetting!

Workshop Weekend: Interactive Layout

Have you gotten your hands on the Jeanette's newest "How To" book? It is awesome! I've looked through each page, hundreds of times! As I looked at each layout I realized I was ready to try creating one for myself!

When I saw my completed layouts, I knew what my next workshop would be! I wanted to teach you how to create a beautiful interactive layout with ease.

As you can see, these are 12 x 12 layouts in page protectors. They are fun and creative! But, if you look closely the film strips are hiding more pictures which tells my story to the fullest.

With one slight pull of a tab, I have more pictures to tell my story.

5 Years With CTMH!!

In June I received a small package from Close To My Heart. My first thought was "did I have product on back order?" I began searching the corners of my mind thinking that I had a customer waiting for their product. When I brought the package inside I literally ripped into the package tearing my letter. It was nice surprise to see that Close To My Heart was recognizing my achievement of being with the company for 5 year. April 16, 2010 I celebrated 5 years with Close To My Heart. I have really enjoyed the growth I have seen over the 5 years I have been with the company. I have seen the color palette change to keep trendy and fashionable. I was able to witness the transition from Wooden Mounted stamps to Acrylix Stamps. The birth and death of the Coluzzle cutting system and much, much more!!

CTMH Convention was held in Washington, DC. Mom and I attended Convention (we wouldn't have missed it for the world!). It is always great to meet up with CTMH Buddies and meet new ones. (Right to Left: Joey Balles, Diane Bowman, Doris, Sylvia Rodriguez, Celina Little, ??) It was exciting to see all of the CTMH logo items EVERYWHERE!! Even on the stairs.
I have been involved in a Stamp of the Month cardswap for several years (hosted by Diane Bowman). She encourages us to make extra cards so they can be sent to corporate. It is always nice to see our own artwork on the wall and to see our name as an Art Wall Contributor!

CTMH Convention @ Washington, DC

The Close To My Heart Convention was held in Washington DC this year. So we decided to take a road trip. We left Wharton on Friday, July 2nd and didn't return home until Monday, July 12th. My friend Bryan Crosswhite and his wife Melissa hosted us for most of our trip. Then we moved over to the Gaylord National Harbor on the Potomac. While we were with Bryan and Melissa we did A LOT of sight-seeing. This picture of the Marine Corps Memorial was one of my favorites. Mostly because I have family that was in the Marine Corps.

When the convention began on Thursday, July 8th Mom and I were so excited!! We learned about all of the new and exciting changes that will happen with Close To My Heart.

Corey Haim (Dec. 23, 1971 - March 10, 2010)

Today is a sad day....one of my favorite 80's icons has passed away. Haim was 1/2 of the "Two Corey's". (Corey Haim & Corey Feldman) My favorite Haim movie is The Lost Boys (1987). I watched that movie over and over and over again, I even own it on DVD. My older brother had the soundtrack and I used to take it from his room so I could listen to the songs. I also remember him in License To Drive (1988). I watched that movie a couple of months ago and just laughed - as it brought back some of my childhood memories. I also laughed because it is a really corny movie!!! But I loved it anyway. Haim was not able to overcome his addiction. RIP

My Uncle Roel Villarreal

On Thursday, November 12, 2009 - my Uncle Roel was involved in a major auto accident. He was leaving his sub-division and turning left on Barker-Cypress when a BMW ran a red light and t-boned him. Needless to say, he sustained several internal injuries which resulted in him being life-flighted to Memorial Hermann (TMC). You may or may not know my Uncle Roel so let me tell you a little about him. I spent MANY summers in Kingsville with my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin. They became my second family and have become a big part of my life. (Thanks mom for always letting me spend time with your sister!!) My unlce is very relaxed and laid back. He retired from Kingsville A&M about 2 years ago. He was the Director of Financial Aide. Many people know him as "Mr. V" My Aunt and Uncle relocated to Houston. I see them pretty often. So when I heard about his accident, my heart dropped. I could only imagine how my aunt and cousin were feeling. As soon as my work day was over My Uncle Danny, Aunt Gloria and I headed to Memorial Hermann. I spent the rest of the weekend going back and forth to the hospital. Another work-week has started and my thoughts and prayers are with my aunt and cousin. I am sure they are flooded with call and texts and e-mails. If you are reading this, please keep my Uncle Roel in your prayers. I believe in the power of prayer!!

My message to everyone is......drive with both hands and keep your eyes on the road! I realize in this day and age everyone is multi-tasking and is VERY distracted when they are behind the drivers seat. It does not pay to be in a rush or to be distracted. My Uncle Roel was going for breakfast and now his world has changed. And not only his world but my aunt's and cousin's. He is 65 and retired. He should be enjoying life and now he has a long road to recovery.

My 36th Birthday

I celebrated my 36th birthday on Friday, October 30th. I started out by taking the day off. I went to my neice's Halloween Party at school....picked her up and then we headed off to get Mani/Pedi's. She LOVED it!! Then we started making our way to the restaurant. I made a pit stop at Best Buy and bought the latest Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, and AFI CD's. (yes, I buy the whole CD and I LOVE Alternative music!!!) Then we ended up at Mi Casa in Pecan Grove. I had an awesome time and I want to thank my family and friends that showed up to celebrate with me. I had an awesome time. After that, some of my friends and I headed off to the "after" party. As we started making our way home we stopped at Waffle House and had breakfast. This was the best birthday!!

I am so behind on posting....but wanted to take time to remeber Patrick Swayze. I have to say the most memorable role he played (for me) is Dirty Dancing. I loved that movie. I can't believe that it was 1987 when the movie debuted and I was only in the 7th grade. I loved the chemistry between him and Jennifer Grey. "Nobody puts Baby in a corner!" I can still hear him sing "She's Like The Wind".

My other favorite movies are Point Break and To Wong Foo.

You will be greatly missed!

When Melrose Place Ruled the World!!

Okay, so I was updating my FaceBook last night when I came across an advertisement for the NEW Melrose Place. What?? Was my first reaction. Seriously, a NEW Melrose Place? What could possibly be better than the original which, first aired July 8, 1992 and ran for 7 seasons. I didn't think anything of it. I made a comment on my FB and that was it...never thought of it again. Until my BFF called me and reminded me that it was on TV. Wow! Boy did that bring back memories of us watching Melrose Place faithfully EVERY Monday night! Oh how I loved the night time soap. I couldn't get enough of the the twists and turns and the lying, cheating and back stabbing. Amanda Woodward (Heather Locklear) was a "Guest" star all 7 seasons! She was my favorite character.
Michael Mancini and SyndeyAndrews were on last night's first Pilot episode. Wow! It does not look like they have aged one bit! I would love to drink from their fountain of youth. Poor Sydney never got a break and she was so misunderstood. I can't believe that she was on the first NEW Melrose Place episode. She was killed in a car accident on her wedding day in the Series Finale (May 24, 1999). I guess talking to my BFF on the phone and watching the NEW Melrose Place I missed the whole conversation where Micheal Mancini helped FAKE her death. And she lived.....only to die, again! Poor Sydney!

So here's to the NEW Melrose Place. I doubt it will ever live up to the original. I may try to suffer thru a few of the episodes to see if I can get into it. Honestly, I would rather buy the original Melrose Place series on DVD and watch them all at once. I already have season 1 and have alread watched it. Now, I need to buy seasons 2-7.

Robin's Home Workhsop: 6 cards using Bella

Robin hosted a Home Workshop on August 22, 2009. We created 6 cards using papers from the Bella Reflections Level II Paper Pak. This has become my all time favorite paper!!! I think what I like most is the Smokey Plum. I forget how much I like this color. Robin had several friends come over for this card workshop.

Robin treated us like queens! We had so much food and all of it was delicious! I had to taste test everything. Her husband was an awesome host and he didn't seem to mind that he had a house full of women.

There were several animals running around (Robin loves animals!)...but there was one particular cat that loved my bag. He spent most of the time curled up at the bottom of my roller bag and he didn't seem to mind that he was squished.

I would like to thank all of the ladies that were there. I appreciate each of you taking the time to come to a crafty party and spend the afternoon with me. I hope I was able to teach you a little about Close To My Heart products and the love I have for the products.

Once again, we had an AWESOME Kidz Krafts. Sarah, Mattie, Gabi and Victoria attended. We made a cute little paper bag album using Cocoa papers. A storm was moving in and Sarah & Mattie left before I could take a group picture.

My Kidz Krafts met on July 22nd. Sarah, Victoria, Gabi and Mattie attended. We created cute megaphones and covered a composition book and a pen to match. The girls selected a style for their initial; covered it with Bonding Memories Glue and then glittered it!! We had glitter or Pixie Dust (as the girls called it) ALL over the place!!! Then they selected an animal print paper and a boa of their choice. I think the girls had a great time.

Kidz Krafts = July 8, 2009

I am so glad that Victoria, Gabi, and Sarah were able to join Kidz Krafts. We completed 2 12x12 layouts using Moon Doggie...which has become my new favorite papers! We even had a chance to place some of their pictures on their pages. Which was awesome! I helped them place their photos down while they wrote their story (journaled). It is so important to write down your favorite memories. We were finished about 30 minutes early so to keep the girls busy, we pretended to be journalists and they "interviewed" each other. The rulers were their microphone.

Kidz Krafts = June 24, 2009

Once again, I had an awesome Kidz Krafts group!! Sarah, Madison, Gabi and Victoria got to make a cute wipe-off board using an 8x10 picture frame. The girls painted the frame and then put together an 8x10 scrap page to use as the back ground. As soon as the girls were done putting their wipe-off board together they began writting on it. Some girls made up rules for their room, some girls wrote down what they need to do everyday. My friend, Merry, was my special guest. We had a fantastic time and the girls are NOT camera shy!

For our next Kidz Krafts we will create 12x12 scrap pages.

Paying tribute to Michael Jackson. I grew up listening to his music and even had posters of him on my wall. As he got older…he got weirder and weirder…but I choose to remember him as he was from my childhood. I LOVED his Thriller album and still have it on CD. His music has been playing on the radio all day….. He has forever changed dancing, music and videos.

This is the July Stamp of the Month - You've Got Flair. I created this card for a standing stamp of the month swap I am in. I used a card template out of the Wishes book. I stamped the image using Brown Staz-On and then added color using markers. For a final touch I added liquid glass.

Post Cards for my Friend...

My dearest friend asked me to make post cards for her daughter before she headed off to college. These are a few post cards I came up with. Since the cards will not be in clear envelopes I could not use a lot of embellishments. Everything is adhered using Liquid Glass. I love that stuff!! It really works. The back of the cards are pretty much the same.

I hope Kelsey uses these post cards to keep in touch with family and friends as she begins a new chapter in her life.

Kidz Krafts - June 10, 2009

Chanele, Madison, and Sarah attended my Kidz Krafts. I really enjoyed teaching them the art of Scrapbooking and how fun it can be to tell your story thru pictures. I have been a CTMH consultant for 5 years and have taught MANY classes and workshops, but never to 10-year old girls. The class was very energetic!! I look forward to the next Kidz Krafts!!

This is a "sneak peak" at what we will do at the next Kidz Krafts which will be as follows:

This is a card I created for a standing "Stamp of the Month" swap that I am in. I used the Rock and Roll technique on the stamped image to create some intensity on the edges of the tag. The flourish and the sentiment are also from the Tender Tags stamp set. I sewed the edges to add just an extra touch of embellishment!!!

May Club Nite = Mystery Hostess

These were the cute layouts we created this month for club nite. Unfortunately I had a lady drop out of the “Hostess” club….but good news for my club members….I got to select a Mystery Hostess. This person was able to select FREE product. And who doesn’t love FREE?? The lucky winner for May was Diana Villarreal! 2009 Summer Kidz Krafts

I have had one of my friends approach me about doing something "crafty" during the summer. I have decided to put together a Summer Kidz Krafts program. We will meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday in June, July and August. The cost is $15.00 per class.

The first date for Kids Krafts is: Wednesday, June 10th

Time: 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Location: my home

If you have been contacted by my friend, please contact me to enroll your child in the Summer Kidz Krafts program. We will meet the 2nd and 4th Wednesday in June, July, and August. Once summer begins to wind down we can discuss moving the Kidz Krafts schedule to once a month.

Supplies your child will need to bring:
